Fresh Ginger – Medical Effect and Usage

Ginger has a special place in many kitchens because it has special aroma and the harsh, hot taste which makes it different from other spices. It was used for thousand years like spice and herb, but till today people use his powerful effect.

The ginger has a botanical name (Zingiber officinale) is one year plant with root. It origin is from the south part of Asian continent and is grown for more than 3 000 years. The biggest producer of this exotic spice with white and yellow color is India.

The root ginger contains only 80 calories on 100 grams, which in biggest part is containing:

Carbohydrates – 18 grams, Proteins – 2 grams, Fat – 1 gram.

In this nutrient composition the biggest part of ginger are:

  • Vitamin C,

  • Potassium,

  • Iron,

  • Calcium,

  • Magnesium.

Storage of ginger

Today we have two forms of ginger: fresh root or powder. If you are in position to choose, choose fresh ginger.

The only negative side of ginger is that he is drying quickly. If you want to save a bigger quantity, then after rinsing and peeling wrap it in plastic foil and put it in the fridge to freeze. It will save his nutrients and the cutting and grating is much easier with the frozen one, than with the fresh ginger. The ginger powder needs to be saved in nicely closed jar, on dry, dark and cold place. This kind of ginger, can be saved through out a year, if you save it in the fridge.

Fresh ginger

Fresh ginger is helping in regulating of high cholesterol I the fight against some stomach bacteria which are responsible for creation of peptic ulcer disease. It’s also lowering the stomach bloating and relieves tension caused by nasty stomach gases. It has a positive effect on the recovery of intestinal flora, has a laxative effect and regulates irregular capital. Strong headache and migraine can be mitigated by few thin slices of ginger.

Usage: Fresh ginger is good to consume after good rinsing and it’s peeled. You just cut it on small slices and chew little pieces. Or you can grate it and add 1 tablespoon of honey to soften the taste.

Ginger powder

Ginger powder helps in relieving abdominal pains, thanks to the essential oils in it’s composition. The oils are calming the pain with quickly offset of stomach acids. Also releasing useful enzymes for normal work of the digestive track. It has great use against inflammatory diseases, relieving painful symptoms of arthritis, cold or flu.

Many researches are showing that the usage of ginger powder is accelerating the growth of cancerous tumors and it’s excellent adding for mitigation of consequences from chemotherapy like nausea and vomiting. The ginger powder is accelerating the circulation and preventing blood clots. It has positive influence for relieving the tired muscles, after hard practicing. Consume ginger responsible, but not more than 4 grams a day.

Usage: Mix ½ teaspoon of ginger powder with lukewarm water and drink the mixture in the morning, 30 minutes before breakfast.

Ginger tea

Ginger tea is helping in healing of sore throat, dry cough and it; reliving cold symptoms. It’s containing antioxidants that strengthen immunity and reduces the risk of heart attack.

Freshly made ginger tea is reducing stress, stimulates alertness and increases energy. During menstrual pain it’s recommended to put a towel dipped in warm ginger tea on the stomach.

You can sweeten the tea with honey or to make it even better with freshly squeezed lemon or orange juice. It’s not recommended to drink more than 2 ginger teas daily.

Ginger Tea

Preparation of fresh ginger tea:

1. Cut 3-4 thin slices of fresh ginger and put them in 400ml boiled water. Cover the dish and leave it to sit 10 minutes until it has color. 2. You add ¼ of a cup of grated ginger in 1l boiling water. Cook it for 4 minutes on low temp and strain the liquid in glasses.

Preparation of ginger tea in powder form:

In 1 cup boiling water add ½ teaspoon ginger powder. Cover the cup and leave the liquid to cool down 10-15 minutes before drinking.

Ginger good for the body as is good for the mind. It improves the concentration and memory, it’s feeding the organism and encourages releasing of energy. But for this features it’s not recommended to consume at the evening, it can cause insomnia.

It is believed that ginger has strong aphrodisiac effect, which can positively affect on increasing the libido and fertility.
